What To Do During Quarantine…

What To Do During Quarantine…

I stared at this title for quite some time because I wasn’t sure I even wanted to do this.  However, this is the elephant in the room for most of us worldwide that doesn’t have an ACTUAL end in sight, other than “expert best guesses”.  That’s an oxymoron phrase if I’ve ever heard one!

Options

A lot of people have been posting on social media regarding cleaning and organizing their homes.  Unfortunately, I did that in FEBRUARY before we knew we would be living on what most of us consider “house arrest” minus the ankle bracelet (so far)!

I watched Tidying up with Marie Kondo on Netflix and I was a woman possessed.  I folded everything.  I bought lots of organizers on Amazon Prime for bathroom drawers and kitchen drawers.  My junk drawer did not even survive the “carnage” of my organization whirlwind.  The “junk” is now sorted in different sized organizers.  It looks amazing, at least to me.  I bought a spice rack that is mounted (courtesy of my husband) on the inside of my pantry door and my spices are perfectly alphabetized and easy to access without knocking anything over!

My medicine cabinet is up to date and contains nothing from before 2020!!!

So what was I to do now that I didn’t have those things to keep me busy???

I was going to record my cats doing something funny but realized they don’t do much of anything besides sleep, eat, and well, you know.

Ideas

  • It’s almost Spring here so I have my husband pressure washing our fence so I can re-stain it in between rainy days.
  • I am watching more Netflix and reading more blogs online.
  • We went for a drive on Saturday with the windows down, which felt amazing!.
  • I have cats that like to sprawl all over me so brushing the cats is a mundane but necessary activity.
  • I look for new recipes online.
  • I reorganized all my bookmarks in my browser. (I know, I’m grasping at straws here.)
  • I weed my flower beds every few days.

Looking Forward

For now, I’m only looking at the near future.  This coming Saturday we will turn on our pool heater so that 3 days after that I can be in the pool.  I have loved to swim my entire life so I will be doing laps and water exercises and “some” floating around relaxing and listening to the waterfall.  That is the one place I can pretend there is no quarantine and feel free.

There are plans I had for May that had to be canceled as the activity is canceled.  I have plans for June that I accept that may not happen either.  At this point, my future is week by week and I am focusing on that.

Find your Happy Place

I hope you all have a little corner of your home, your garden or even a nice soft place to rest and read a good book or watch something that brings you joy on TV.  Call an old friend you haven’t had a chance to talk to in a while.

I am grateful to be healthy today and that for now, everyone I know is as well.  My prayer is that this ends quickly and we that all remember this time and because of it,  how precious our time truly is moving forward.

  1. Relaxing and swimming in your pool sounds fantastic, we are heading towards colder weather and have just had our winter wood delivery. For us it will be a time to get cosy!

Wishing you well in the days ahead Rita. I’m reading heaps more and have found a few things to watch on Netflix and I’m enjoying an online yoga program most days, something very different to my norm!

    1. Thank you, Debbie! I’ve been watching my share of Netflix and I’m watching Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu with Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. It’s really good.

Hi Rita, love your list of ideas. Because we’re not in our own place (we don’t have one right now), with our own things (we’ve only got clothes with us), there’s not much to do here! I love the idea of organising your bookmarks, I’ll get on to that a bit later. I’ve been going through my videos that I’ve recorded over the years, naming them properly (instead of just a number generated by the camera), and I’ve also been backing up files and folders (I don’t use the ‘cloud’). Always something to do when there’s technology around! Take care and enjoy your swim! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Cheryl! I like the idea of organizing electronic files too. I started going through photos and classifying them in folders by subject: grandkids, cats, etc. Hopefully, the quarantine will be over before summer is!
